This song 'Waltz for Richard' by First Aid Kit stays with me for hours every time I hear it. Lilting and gentle, it's the perfect accompaniment to tea, maple syrup pancakes and a cold Sunday morning snuggle in bed.
No apologies made for another female acoustic, it's my Sunday morning sensibility. Hope you like this live version of Youth by Daughter, I'm playing it quietly and enjoying an unexpected lie-in while my little one snores.
I love indulgent, meandering British bands that sound like they were made for rainy outdoor festivals and huge, open-air audiences. I have just discovered Clock Opera and can't wait for their album to be released here, until then thank god for youtube!
Happy Sunday, I can just see some tinkling rain on the windows, how appropriate.
How unique and gorgeous is this 16 year old Brit? And I love the addition of her Mum playing the 'frog'. My toes are tapping in time with the croaks...
Temper Trap will always hold a special place in my heart, as 'Sweet Disposition' never failed to get my daughter wriggling around in my tummy, before she was born.
This song, the b side of their new single 'Need your Love', is intense and dark, perfect for a crisp, grey Autumn morning.
I'm roasting a big, fat Rangitikei chook for lunch today, with sage, lemon and garlic. Mmmmmm. How about you?
I'm in love with this song, it reminds me of gliding around the rink at Skateland, eyes flickering in the mirrorball, believing I was as cool as the kids in Breakfast Club. The reality was probably more Goonies, but ignorance was bliss!
My piano is currently being 'babysat' because there isn't a spare corner in my teeny home, and I've gotten used to not having it around, but this song makes my fingers ache. I've already worked out most of the chords (playing on the kitchen bench) and am thinking a trip to Piano Traders for a tinkle might be in order.
I also love it when male singers pull off a beautiful falsetto, and though this song was written for a certain teen Vampire flick it still manages to pull my heart strings. Enjoy.
I've got my heart set on poached eggs with salsa verde on toast and a chocolate mandarin macaron from Dizengoff cafe this morning...how about you, Beaunz belles?
I'm emotionally bruised from a week of ups and downs, so this song feels right for a grey Sunday morning when staying snuggled up in bed is the only option.
When I played this song earlier in the week, the boy sighed with relief that it wasn't another 'indie accoustic number' and actually jived around while he made dinner. It's not often I score his musical approval, so choosing this week's Sunday Sounds was easy.
Group Love are a new discovery for me, and I'm already hooked. They sound like they're having so much fun on every song, and I can't help getting up and dancing around the lounge, especially to this song Tongue Tied.
A little more uplifting than my usual, perfect for a Monday-morning-free Sunday (if you're reading on this side of the Tasman anyway!) We're on our way to the Riverhead Tavern for lunch, how about you?
I'm sharing a little secret today, a website called They Shoot Music, which is a Bermuda Triangle for your spare time. I can literally spend hours browsing this site and watching beautiful, indie music played acoustic, in gorgeous European settings.
Nice and sleepy and slow, perfect hangover listening.
Something about this song, 'I sing I swim' by Seabear, makes me think of 1950s rockabilly rebels making out at the drive-in, acting tough but really scared and insecure on the inside.
'Human skin, can be hard to live in
You'll feel better in the morning'
Happy Sunday Beaunz belles, my feet are dangling out the window in the sun and I'm already on my second coffee, how about you?
What is going on with the weather right now? Rain after rain after rain after rain. Thank goodness for tea, Scorched Almonds and Christmas mince pies.
This cover of 'Skinny Love' by Bon Iver is by a 15year old from the UK, known as Birdy. 15! It has been doing the rounds all year, and is so beautiful. On a cool, rainy Sunday morning, just one listen of this song and I feel a little better equipped to face the Christmas madness.
Every year on the 8th of December I have a quiet moment and think of John Lennon. Strange as it sounds for someone not of the Beatles era, I have always felt a real sense of sadness and loss. His songs fill little holes in my heart, and are as ingrained in my childhood memories as nursery rhymes.
I'm a huge Beatles fan (Rubber Sole is my desert island album), but it's Imagine that I sing to my daughter in the bath, and that I hope she grows up knowing. The lyrics are 40 years old yet they still find relevance today, and although I can't watch this video clip without cringing, I love its gentle optimism. I can think of a few politicians who should listen to a little more John Lennon.
